What to expect when we meet

What to expect when we meet
2 mins reading time

First meeting

When you book six sessions, we will first organise a complimentary 45 minute meeting to discuss your health, lifestyle, training objectives and exercise history. If you’re unsure of your goals, together we will explore what they could look like. For bookings of less than six or the LTR sessions, I’ll email a questionnaire to build a profile of your current health and fitness level and to establish your goals.

First session

In our first training session, we’ll focus on learning proper technique and exploring a variety of exercises to identify those that will be most beneficial for you. This session allows us to find the right fit for your unique needs and goals. From there, I’ll draw up a plan tailored to your strengths, areas for improvement, and overall objectives, setting you up for effective progress in the sessions that follow.

Subsequent sessions

Each session will begin with a brief warm-up to get your body ready for movement. From there, we’ll dive into cardio work followed by strength & conditioning exercises—or focus solely on strength & conditioning, depending on your goals. We’ll finish each session with stretching to promote flexibility and aid recovery

One to three session bookings

If you’re interested in training with me for a single session, we’ll focus on mastering the correct technique for four or five essential “all-rounder” exercises. These foundational movements are carefully chosen to give you the most benefit across key muscle groups.

For two or three session bookings, we’ll take things further by refining these exercises to address any muscular imbalances and ensuring that you’ve fully learned the techniques. This way, we build a solid foundation for effective, injury-free training tailored to your needs

The gym

I coach from the rowing club gym at Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha Boat Club (MAABC). The gym is equipped with rowing machines, watt bikes, a soft area, weight machines and free weights. There is also free parking available. Membership isn’t compulsory, however if you did want to have independent access to the gym and club room, email membership@maabc.com

If you prefer to train elsewhere, such as your own rowing club or gym, we can explore the options.
